Juan Antonio (Tiny) Cains
Los Knicks Radio Analyst
Juan Antonio (Tiny) Cains joined MSG Network for the 1998-99 season after a successful 24-year coaching and teaching career in Puerto Rico, where his basketball teams won six high school championships and sent three players to the national team. Cains begins his third season as Los Knicks radio analyst, teaming once again with play-by-play announcer (and his former player) Clemson Smith-Muñiz.
For the past three years, Cains has worked as an analyst for NCAA games on ESPN Latin America and has also called WNBA games for the network as well. He started coaching at age 19 and also served as athletic director at Adianez H.S. in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. As the coach at Colegio San José, Cains won four consecutive Puerto Rican High School Athletic Association titles. In addition, he won the country's Sub-22 Semi-Pro Category National Championship. Cains was responsible for recruiting 6-9 Ramón Ramos, who later took Seton Hall to the 1989 NCAA Final Four. As an assistant in the Puerto Rican Superior League, he worked with Rollie Massimino and P.J. Carlesimo. Currently serving as the lead scout for the Puerto Rican national team, Cains is considered one of the best advance men in the business.
Cains holds a B.A. in physical education from the University of Puerto Rico and a Masters Degree in recreation services administration from the Universidad Metropolitana. When not covering the Knicks or scouting for the Puerto Rican national team, he enjoys bowling, martial arts, playing video games, and spending time with his family. He currently resides in Manchester, CT, with his wife Aida Algarín and children Jonathan and Samantha.
