Mike Breen
New York Knicks Televison Analyst
Over the past decade, Mike Breen has emerged as one of the NBA’s signature voices. Breen is currently the lead play-by-play announcer for the New York Knicks telecast on MSG. He shares the TV booth alongside one of the greatest Knicks ever, Walt “Clyde” Frazier. The duo has been calling games together since 2003.
During his time with MSG, which began in 1992, Breen has handled the play-by-play radio broadcast for the New York Knicks and also called play-by-play for the New York Liberty in 1997.
In 2006, for the first time in his career, ABC and ESPN named the veteran broadcaster lead voice for the NBA including the Finals. Prior to calling play-by-play, he worked for the widely popular “Imus in the Morning” radio program in New York on WFAN for 14 years. The versatile Breen has also called the play-by-play for the AFL, NFL and three WNBA Finals for NBC.
In addition, Breen served in that same capacity for the 1998 Women’s World Basketball Championships. The National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association recognized his talents that same year when he was named “Broadcaster of the Year” in New York State.
In the summer of 2004, he had the pleasure of handling play-by-play for men’s and women’s basketball at the Summer Olympics in Athens. It was his fourth tour of Olympic duty.
Breen began his broadcasting career shortly after graduation from Fordham University, serving as a newscaster and sportscaster for WEOK/WPDH Radio in Poughkeepsie, NY. Soon after, he began working as a television commentator for Marist College basketball games on the Colony Sports Network, while also serving as analyst for Seton Hall basketball on radio.
Among the numerous charities Breen is involved with, he is known for his devotion to the St. Mary’s Children’s Hospital and The Miracle Foundation. Also, a running enthusiast, he has completed three New York City Marathons.
